Committee Chair

We hope that everyone has a a wonderful and safe holiday season. The following
is an excerpt from Jane Larkworthy's Beacon Herald column.
Team Jentz captures Ladies’ crown
It’s often said that curling is a game of inches. If Saturday’s Ladies’ Open is
any example, the same adage may apply when it comes to determining overall spiel
winners! By a mere half a point, the Stratford rink of Megan Jentz, Melanie
Hughes, Jane Larkworthy and Sue Blacklock (34.25) edged out Club counterparts
Ann Snider, Laurie Mitchell, Maggie Harris and Gail Vivian (33.75) to grab the
hardware at the 9th Annual Re/Max a-b Realty Ltd. Mary Dingman Ladies’ Open
Bonspiel. Team Jentz defeated local entry Joan Neely (8-4) and High Park’s
Kelly Williams (13-6) to place first in the late draw, while Snider downed
Dingman (11-6) and Ilderton’s Linda McKnight (8-7) to take top spot in the early
draw.
Stratford’s Jane Killer, Marg Smith, Kim Bardwell and Deb Best also went
undefeated to place second in the late draw (31.75), with the Club’s Adelinde
Sacherow, Nadine MacLachlan, Cheryl Muir and Maxine Roberston finishing third
(26.25). Joan Beuermann’s Mitchell entry (33) and McKnight (24.5) placed
two-three in early draw play. The Club wishes to acknowledge and thank Mary
Dingman for her ongoing sponsorship of this terrific event, co-convenors Marg
Dillow and Jane Killer for their time and efforts, and our visiting and member
rinks for their support.
The Stratford Country Club is running a Member Guest Bonspiel during the
holiday period. Convenors Mike and Marianne Elliott encourage all our curling
members to invite friends and family to take part in this holiday season event
to be held on the evening of December 28. A sign-up sheet is posted in the
curling lounge please consider coming out and bringing your favourite relative
or friend, to give it a try.
For upcoming events, the ever so popular Greenspiel will be run again during the
new year. The player auction will take place at 7:30 p.m. on the Saturday
evening before the event (Jan. 16). And curling will begin on Friday (Jan. 22)
and run through Sunday (Jan. 24). A Gala dinner and dance, to which members are
invited to bring guests, is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on the Saturday evening.
During the month of January, the Club will host its remaining two charity events
(12th Annual “Curl for Heart”, Jan. 9; Community Living Stratford and Area (CLSA)
Video Plus Books + CDs Winterfest Bonspiel, Jan. 16), as well as the
much-anticipated Green Spiel (player selection Jan. 15; play beginning Jan.
21). Rounding out the month will be the Ontario Curling Association (OCA)
Women’s Tankard and Silver Tankard (team competition) zone 15 playdowns (Jan. 30
& 31).
We wish you all the best of the holiday season.
Jane Larkworthy and Shawn Malvern on behalf of the Curling Committee.
